If you've ever thought about trying a HIIT class but talked yourself out of it — I'm not fit enough, it's going to be too intense, everyone else will be in better shape — you're in exactly the right place. This guide covers what HIIT actually means, whether it's right for you, and exactly how to walk into your first class prepared.

I'm Coach Mike. Six years of running HIIT classes in Cypress. I've coached people who hadn't worked out in a decade and people who ran marathons. HIIT works for both. Let me show you why.

What Is HIIT?

HIIT stands for High-Intensity Interval Training — which sounds more intimidating than it is. The core idea is simple: short bursts of hard effort, followed by brief rest periods, repeated in a structured format. That's it. A typical class alternates between 30-45 seconds of work and 15-30 seconds of rest, cycling through multiple rounds.

You don't need to go "all out" every round. You work at your intensity — hard enough to challenge yourself, sustainable enough to finish the session. A good coach will meet you where you are and build from there.

Is HIIT Right for You? Common Fears, Debunked

Most people who never start a HIIT class do so because of one of these myths. Let me clear them up.

❌ "I'm not fit enough to do HIIT."

You don't need to be fit to start HIIT. You need to start to get fit. The people who benefit most from HIIT are the ones who show up consistently — not the ones who are already in peak condition. Every class at MC's HIIT House includes scaled options for every exercise. You work at your level, and the coach adjusts based on where you are, not where you think you should be.

❌ "It'll be too intense — I'll embarrass myself."

The workout is designed to be challenging, not cruel. You control your intensity. If a movement doesn't feel right in your body, there's always a modification. The coaches are watching the room — they'll catch you before you hurt yourself. And honestly? Everyone in the room was a beginner once. No one's keeping score.

❌ "I'll be the only out-of-shape person there."

MC's HIIT House regularly has members in their 50s and 60s training alongside people in their 20s. The variety in the room is the point. You push yourself at your level; they push at theirs. The community doesn't form despite the intensity — it forms because of it.

What to Expect at Your First Class

Your first class will follow a consistent structure — warm-up, work blocks, and a cool-down. Every session at MC's HIIT House opens with a guided warm-up that prepares the joints and movement patterns you'll use that day. Then you move into the work blocks: short, intense efforts followed by short rest periods, repeated for a set number of rounds. The session closes with a cool-down and stretch.

The full breakdown — including what the warm-up actually looks like, how the work intervals are timed, and what the cool-down involves — is in the First Class Guide. It's written for exactly the person reading this right now.

Why MC's HIIT House Is Built for Beginners

Most fitness studios are designed for the person who's already in good shape. They have the infrastructure and equipment, but the culture skews toward people who already know how to work out. That's not who we're built for.

MC's HIIT House was built for the person who's been thinking about getting back into fitness for a while — maybe years — and hasn't found the right environment yet. Here's what that actually means in practice:

Modifications on every exercise, every session. I watch the room during every block. If someone's form is breaking down because the standard version is too challenging, I'll give them a scaled option in real time. That's not a concession — it's good coaching. You build from where you are, not from where the spreadsheet thinks you should be.

Small classes, real attention. I deliberately keep class sizes to a level where I can actually watch everyone in the room. When you're 15 reps deep and your lower back starts to compensate, I see it. That attention is only possible at a scale that makes it possible — and that's a deliberate choice we make.

Community over competition. The members who've been with us for years show up for each other, not just themselves. When you walk in on day one, you're walking into a room where people hold each other accountable — and that accountability is what makes the difference between starting a routine and actually keeping one.

If you've been waiting for the right moment to start, this is it. The 30-Day Summer HIIT Challenge begins June 1 — a structured, supported entry point with a defined start date, built-in accountability, and a community doing it alongside you. For new members, it's $99. For existing members, it's free.
