Honored and grateful — we were featured by Umbrella Local Heroes as their Cypress, CA local spotlight. It's humbling to be recognized in a publication that actually cares about the communities it covers. And it's a reminder of why we built this place the way we did.

Here's what the feature had to say — and a few thoughts from me on what it means for the people we serve.

What Umbrella Local Heroes Said

The piece, written by David Hernandez, covers the full story — including the parts that made me pause when I reread it. A few highlights worth pulling out:

"At MC's HIIT House, we're not just about workouts; we're about transforming lives. We believe in making fitness accessible, affordable, and impactful for everyone."

— Coach Mike, from the Umbrella Local Heroes feature

That quote landed exactly the way I intended it when I said it — but hearing it back in print still hits differently. Because the people I built this for aren't gym rats. They're the busy professional who barely has 45 minutes, the parent who's put their own health on hold for years, the person over 30 who thinks the fitness chapter of their life might be closed. That quote is aimed at them.

Umbrella also captured the origin story:

"After the loss of his mother, he committed to transform his health. What started with jogging as a form of therapy evolved into a passion for fitness — ultimately completing a marathon at age 40, a testament to his dedication."

— Umbrella Local Heroes

That's the real foundation of this place. I didn't come to fitness from a place of confidence — I came from a place of grief and necessity. I know what it's like to start from nothing, to show up overweight and out of shape and feel like you're behind everyone else in the room. That shapes how I coach. I'm not the guy who was always fit. I'm the guy who decided to stop accepting "not today" and build something different.

What Sets MC's HIIT House Apart

The feature got it right when it called out our approach: six years of experience across Crunch Fitness, 9Round Kickboxing, and Floyd Mayweather Boxing + Fitness — but more importantly, the translation of personal transformation into coaching others. That's the difference between a coach who knows the theory and one who lived the story.

Here's how that translates to the gym floor:

The Mission Behind It All

The feature's tagline — "A Different HIIT Every Day" — is the simplest expression of what we do. I design each class around a specific goal: upper body strength, metabolic conditioning, lower body power, full-body burn. You're not doing the same routine on rotation. You're showing up to a workout that's built to move you forward.

Cypress deserves fitness that fits real life — not just the people who have two hours a day and already know what they're doing. That's who I built this for. And that's who keeps showing up.
